Political Parties and Demographic Transformation in Nevada

This Fact Sheet presents projections of demographic change in Nevada’s political party coalitions using data provided in the report “States of Change: How Demographic Change is Transforming the Republican and Democratic Political Parties.” Using the composition of the two parties’ electorate in the 2016 presidential election as a baseline, researchers explore age, race, and education characteristics of voters in 14 U.S. swing states to predict the demographic makeup of voting groups in future elections. Criminal Arrests in Clark County, Nevada, by Jurisdiction 2006-2016

Criminal arrests in Southern Nevada are on a downward trend. Despite a record-setting influx in population across the Las Vegas Valley and the surrounding metro area, officers in each of Clark County’s police jurisdictions arrest fewer people every year. The present study utilizes the Arrest Trends Tool created by the Vera Institute of Justice and the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program to measure the number of arrests made over ten years for a variety of illegal activities, including drug abuse, violence and murder, property crimes, sex crimes, alcohol-related crimes, theft, white collar crimes, and other offenses. This data set summarizes arrest trends from 2006 to 2016—before, during, and after the Great Recession—to examine the implications of static versus changing crime rates. Metro Monitor 2020: Las Vegas & Reno

This Fact Sheet presents changes in indicators of economic health for the State of Nevada using data provided by the Brookings Institution’s Metro Monitor analysis. Looking beyond gross domestic product (GDP) and job growth, researchers at Brookings’ Metropolitan Policy Program measure various indicators of economic well-being across 192 metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) for a 1-year period (from 2017-2018) and a 10-year period (from 2008-2018). Metro areas are classified by size: midsized metros (with populations between 250,000 and 500,000), large metros (with populations between 500,000 and 1 million), and very large metros (with populations over 1 million). For the purpose of this Fact Sheet, data for the Las Vegas-Henderson-Paradise, NV MSA and the Reno, NV MSA are extracted and synthesized

Thin to Win? Network Performance Analysis of the OnLive Thin Client Game System

OnLive was one of the first companies to make use of cloud computing technology to allow users to stream games. The goal of our project was to analyze OnLive\u27s network performance and compare these results to two popular video streaming services, YouTube and Skype. Through careful measurements, we found that OnLive handles variations in a network differently than the other two services. These results indicate that OnLive has tailored their service to adapt to many different network conditions

PEDOT:PSS: A conductive and flexible polymer for sensor integration in Organ-on-Chip platforms

ConferenciaSensing and stimulating microstructures are necessary to develop more specialized and highly accurate Organ-on-Chip (OOC) platforms. In this paper, we present the integration of a conductive polymer, poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS), on a stretchable membrane, core element of an Heart-on-Chip. The electrical conductivity along with its biocompatibility, high transparency (�����88 %) and mechanical elasticity (�����1.2 GPa) make this material a candidate to develop novel microstructures for electrical monitoring and stimulation of cells in flexible-substrate based OOCs. Microstructures with different shapes and geometries of PEDOT:PSS embedded in a 9 μm-thick Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) membrane are developed following a wafer-level fabrication approach. PEDOT:PSS layers between 120 nm and 300 nm are obtained by varying the deposition conditions. The layers are successfully patterned and microstructures with lateral dimensions down to 2 μm. The obtained results indicate that this polymer is a suitable material for microfabrication of sensing and stimulating elements in OOC platforms
